Water! Water! Everywhere!

Blue skies over Scarinish reflected in a tarn

Last winter, our first on Tiree, was said to be one of the wettest in living memory. Although we had been told that water never lay for long on the island, there seemed to be water everywhere – and not just in the sea that surrounds. This winter started out so different, with many glorious days leading up to Christmas.

Since the New Year (2015), the talk is of unprecedented and relentless stormy weather. Once again there are new tarns and lochens appearing all over the island. Not only we have an impressive water feature in a field adjacent to out home, at the top of pier road is a lochen with a most impressive and appropriate sign, – Kayak Hire! Surf Lesson!  The old ones are the best!

Sitting out in the Atlantic Ocean in the path of the storm fronts that the weather forecasters take delight in speaking about means that not only do we have a wide expanse of sky, the sky is ever changing, clouds and colour – that is apart from the occasional grey day.

As good as Slimbridge! Our very own wetlands centre

Tomorrow we have to leave our ‘beloved island’ for a necessary trip to the Mainland. We might yet see some snow and not just hail trying so hard to impersonate the real thing.
