The words of the song announce, ‘There are so many wild and pretty flowers, to name them all would take for hours.’ On occasions, especially when the sun is shining, it feels as if the garden called Tiree extends right up to our door – for we cut the grass rather than attend to the lawn. There is no way in which our grass resembles either a billiard table or bowling green. Yet, our garden is neither unattended or unkept. It is right and fitting that it blends in with the landscape that surrounds our home. Even with the gate secured it has provided sanctuary for a stray lamb and a feeding station for a variety of birds and insects. At present it feels almost criminal to cut the grass, especially when there is such a shortage of feed for the animals on the island. Added to that our grass is home to various wild and pretty flowers.

In the Bible, Peter a follower of Jesus, assures fellow believers, saying,
You have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end.
Your new life will last forever
because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass;
their beauty is like a flower in the field.
The grass withers and the flower fades.
But the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.
