What a great day for the second tour of the season – warm and sunny.
Advertised by CalMac as Experience Tiree, the tour begins at the Oban Ferry Terminal, when you board the Mighty Clansman bound for the beautiful Isle of Tiree. The 3 hour 45 minute cruise takes you past the Isle of Kerrera and Lismore Lighthouse. You then sail up the spectacular Sound of Mull passing Duart Castle and Tobermory. Rounding Ardmore Point you are in the Atlantic before entering the waters of the Passage of Tiree. En route for Tiree the ferry stops at the Island of Coll.
As the ferry enters Gott Bay you sense something of the beauty of Tiree. The coach sits waiting at the ferry terminal to take you to the Scarinish Hotel for lunch.
The coach driver is Nancy and you are assured that she is the best driver on the island. Your excellent tour guide, Mabel, makes the history and heritage of this beautiful island come to life. Included is a visit to the Skerryvore Lighthouse exhibition and many of the beaches for which Tiree is so famous. After a visit to Chocolates and Charms (gift shop) and the Cobbled Cow (restaurant) you finally arrive at the east end in time to see the MV Clansman come through the Gunna Sound. Then it is back to the pier to board the vessel for your return journey to Oban. This evening’s sailing doubtless includes a stunning sunset.
Back in August 2011, it was Mabel and Nancy who first introduced us to Tiree when we came on the tour. This was the first step that resulted in our coming to live on the island. Now it is ‘Life-on-Tiree‘. Take the ‘Experience Tiree Tour and you never know what might happen.
