Sunshine Sandwich

Our Tiree Sandwich.
Yesterday was the filling – sunshine.
On either side of Saturday it has been stormy.
At present the rain is lashing down, driven by high winds.

Friday was a dull, grey day.
It didn’t rain all day, but when it did, it did.
By night-time the wind had started to rise to gale force.
It was windy!

On Saturday we were wakened by the sunrise reflecting on the bedroom mirror.
What a pleasure watching the sunrise over the Scarinish Headland.
When the ferry arrived in Gott Bay, both were bathed by sunshine.
And so the day continued.

When sunset arrived the sky was clothed in cloud.
There was to be no spectacular sunset.
The great feature was the clouds.

Slowly the clouds began to part to reveal the moon.
Looking out our south facing window it was clearly visible.
Clouds were chasing one another across the night sky.
When they parted what a wonderful sight:
Our black sky peppered with stars.

All of a sudden the living room was lit up by a bright flash.
This was followed by a roll of thunder.
The rain lashed down momentarily.
Then the moon reappeared.

With the wind forecast to rise throughout Sunday
the ferry was re-scheduled to come to Tiree an hour earlier.
As the day has progressed the weather has steadily worsened.
The heavy rain is being driven by strong winds gusting close to 50mph.
The leaden sea is being whipped up and white horses are galloping across the waves

This is ‘Life on Tiree’.
It does rain sometimes on the sunshine capital.
Not every photograph is characterised by blue skies and seas.
